to do

There are a lot of things I want to do. Or try. Or complete. Or repeat again, since I didn't do a good job the first time.

Hopefully by keeping this list on-line, I'll better remember, when I stumble and feel directionless, some things to do.

immediate / urgent

  • revisit area near γ (gamma) Lyrae, identify fuzzies

double stars

  • monitor ξ (xi) UMa (in winter and spring)
  • revisit doubles which I did not split
  • sketch challenging systems
  • accurately measure PA and Sep
  • monitor other fast moving binaries
  • pick some other "fast movers" to observe in other seasons...
  • learn how to report doubles
  • finish the Sky & Tel summer doubles list
  • finish the Sky & Tel winter doubles list
  • finish the Sky & Tel Orion doubles list
  • start measuring "neglected" doubles
  • test MallinCam video recording with BinStar

photography

  • use the RASC MallinCam
    • learn it better, document, teach
    • image ISS in daylight with MallinCam
    • image ISS in evening with MallinCam
    • image bright DSO in daylight with MallinCam
    • image bright planets in daylight with MallinCam
  • star trails
  • double stars
    • for fun
    • for colour
    • for measurement
  • planets
  • wide field / constellations
  • Milky Way
  • use the RASC Skynyx
  • continue research on using a QuickCam
  • try photography with a Questar

bodies

  • Mars, as it moves toward opposition in March 2012
  • view moon(s) of Mars (will need horsepower, i.e. big aperture; and should do March 2012, during next best apparition)
  • view single and double moon shadows on Jupiter
  • or a single shadow with the GRS
  • view moon(s) of Uranus, for e.g., get Ariel
  • view moon(s) of Neptune
  • comet Garradd, summer 2012

general

  • revisit DSOs which I did not see clearly
  • view ISS in daylight with C14
  • view/image ISS during solar transit
  • slow down
  • sketch more
  • make one sketch per observing session!
  • complete Messier list
  • complete Turn Left At Orion
  • explore familiar objects with TV 9mm
  • try loaner 20mm
  • evaluate the binoviewer with dual 20mm wide angles
  • (better) learn SkyTools3 Pro
  • verify C8 is collimated
  • look for quasars (generally the furthest objects away we can see)
  • use the club Questar
  • use the "quick" 'scope more
  • test Celestron First Scope
  • help assemble ma's 'scope

continuous

  • estimate magnitude limits
    • naked eye
    • with binos
    • telescopically
  • learn constellations
  • learn bright stars

Lots to do.
