links to science and research
sites
Formerly, this page contained some links to space telescopes or observatories,
such as Hubble and SOHO. These have been moved to a separate
page.
NASA http://www.nasa.gov
Lots of good stuff here, obviously. You can watch NASA TV from their site during
notable launches. Get general and sighting information about the International
Space Station (ISS). They even have tips on hosting a great star party!
Roscosmos http://www.roscosmos.ru/main.php?lang=en
The Russian Federal Space Agency manages the state's space assets, assists in international space projects, like ISS, and coordinates activity at the Baikonur space port.
HEASARC http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov
In addition to data tables for extreme ultraviolet, x-ray, and gamma ray missions,
the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Centre keeps data on deep
sky objects, bright and multiple stars (the bsc5p table), etc. You can query the
databases dynamically and output to a variety of formats. Incredible!
CSA http://www.space.gc.ca
Want to become an astronaut? Apply here!
SETI http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
You can help in the Search for Extraterrestrial Life and other science projects
by lending unused cycles from your computer(s). Requires installation of BOINC
software.
ESA http://www.esa.int
Home of the European Space Agency. Like NASA, involved in space exploration, climate
analysis, research. They launched the Herschel and Planck telescopes in 2009.
JAXA http://www.jaxa.jp/index_e.html
Home of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency. Actively involved in operating
the International Space Station. Also exploring the Moon.
UWO ASGARD images http://gigantid.physics.uwo.ca/~asgard/
Southern Ontario Meteor Network is a system of all sky cameras (using ASGARD software)
managed by the Meteor Physics grop at the University of Western Ontario.
