links to club and association sites

RASC http://rasc.ca
The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, with head office in Toronto, contains regional centres from coast to coast. Local chapters conduct regular meetings and frequent observing sessions. Membership has its privileges...

With membership now being "recognised" by some other chapters, it might prove especially useful whilst I roam.

  • Toronto Centre
  • Mississauga Centre
  • London Centre

NYAA http://nyaa.ca
An active astronomy club based in North York. They are also the organisers of Canada's biggest star party, StarFest, held annually in August near Mount Forest.

Durham Region Astronomical Association http://www.drastronomy.com
The DRAA is active in the region promoting astronomy and science and light pollution abatement.

Hamilton Amateur Astronomers http://amateurastronomy.org
A group of individuals dedicated to the enjoyment and advancement of astronomy based out of Hamilton. They conduct star parties at the Binbrook Conservation Area.

York Simcoe Amateur Astronomers http://ysaa.ca
Serving Pickering, Newmarket, and the surrounding areas. Meetings and observing sessions.

Orillia Astronomy Club http://www.orilliastars.ca
A relatively new group serving the Orillia and surrounding area. Update: group purportedly disbanded in 2009 or 2010.

North Simcoe Sirius Stargazers
A new group headed up by Peter Ridout. Many members from the Penetangueshene and Midland communities.

Yahoo!Groups http://groups.yahoo.com
I am a member in a number of groups in Yahoo, including Talking Telescopes, Starry Nights, Newtonian Reflectors, and s33 (double stars). These are excellent spaces to table questions, share knowledge, exchange tips and tricks and, where relevant, sightings.

USENET newsgroups http://google.com
The original space in the internet to share ideas. It is harder to get to this area now with internet service providers dropping this feature. But Google Groups offer good access and permit posting (for free, as it should be). There is still a reasonable amount of activity in the science.astronomy.amateur (SAA) newsgroup.
