U () = )( ± P S I O N T I P A N D T R I C K S T O P I C: Closing a Document Without Saving Changes Oops! You’ve just screwed up a document (or a sheet). Badly. You try recovering, undoing, but it’s too late. The file is messed up. What do you do? Don’t close the file! Closing (Series 5) or exiting (Series 3x/Siena) a file causes the program to save the changes before closing. This is a helpful feature ordinarily on a battery-powered, diskless machine. But it can work against you if you don’t want the changes in a Word or a Sheet file saved. Series 3x/Siena 1. Choose SPECIAL, EXIT LOSE CHANGES from the menu or press . 2. Press (the "yes" button) to confirm the loss of all changes. Series 5 The Series 5 does not have an EXIT LOSE CHANGES command. However, you can prevent the original file from being altered by saving the file under a different name. 1. Choose FILE, MORE, SAVE AS... from the menu or press . 2. Type in a new, unique file name. The name is irrelevant. 3. Choose FILE, CLOSE from the menu or press . 4. From the System screen, highlight the newly named file using the keys. This file contains the erroneous information. 5. Delete the file using FILE, DELETE... or or . 6. Press (the "yes" button) to confirm the deletion of the file.
