T O P I C:  Alarms - Anticipating Them

Last time, we were discussing alarms and how you can respond to
them when they sound.  Key idea:  don't hit Esc blindly like I do
'cause you'll miss the displayed message.  Here are some thoughts
on avoiding embarrassing alarm sounds in public.

You can avoid embarrassment by previewing upcoming alarms before
attending a special event.  When I'm just sitting down in a
crowded movie house or concert, I check upcoming alarms.  If
there is an upcoming alarm in the next 24 hours, whether in Time
or an agenda file, it will be shown.  BTW, Agenda files must be
open for the alarms to fire.

    If you've made changes to your agendas, pause for
       30 seconds or so.
    Press the <Time> button to get to the Time
       application.
    Read the "Next alarm:" line at the bottom of the
       screen for the upcoming event.

On the Series 3a, you can view other upcoming events in the Time
program and all open agenda files;  the Series 3 only shows one.

    Press the <Menu> key, then choose ALARM, VIEW NEXT
       ALARMS or press <PSION-v>.
    Read the "Next alarm for Time" box.
    Press <Enter> to view upcoming events.

If you see an alarm coming up in the next few hours, you can turn
off all sounds in your PSION (see Tip #3), delete the
appointment, or turn off the individual appointment's alarm.
Presumably, you can do all these things since you added the
appointment and set the alarm in the first place.  A special 
situation will be described next time we meet in PSIONspace!

Gerry Thorpe reminded me that when snoozing an alarm by pressing
the <Space Bar>, a beep sounds when you pass 60 minutes and the
PSION restarts snoozing at 5 minutes again.
